Captain America Tank Top

New shirt!
After how well the Deadpool shirt turned out, I wanted to try a different Marvel design:

The tank top cost under $1 on sale at a thrift shop, and the paint cost $0.97 per tube at Walmart... So yeah this cost like $4 and only took a couple hours to make (including the time it took to make my stencil)!

Random doodle/ink drawings

I bought new sepia pens and manilla paper today, so... Here's a random tribal-ish doodle thing and dude who reminds me of Ron Stoppable. Her eyes/his grin turned out a bit weird, but I was experimenting with eyes, face shape, lips, and noses so I expected that. XD

New poem: "Magic"

.Magic.

With a tap
with a swish
of my wrist

Towers dissipate
lovers' hearts break
and planet's twirlings end

I have power
like you have never seen
no earthly force can stop me

Worlds and fairies and beasts and men
chattel and Barons and knaves
spring to breath or to death

It is all at my command
I do not need a wand, a scepter, or staff
if you break those I will use a feather, or dust

Regardless of my tools I will keep wielding
ever waxing stronger in my art
for it stems not from devices, but my heart

Yet, although I have great power,
and cannot be stopped by you
my own source of strength can falter...

...Can turn silent and useless
a betrayal of blood origin
my own flesh and matter

For you see
this art of mine,
which holds Hades and Life in its grip

Is not magic
or witchcraft
or murder

I simply write.

The Process

Creative minds are rarely tidy...

New art coming soon, but I wanted to give a snapshot of the process my pieces have to go through...

I usually start out with a clean, semi-organized area, but it never stays in that condition! I'm only about halfway done with my two versions of A Charlie Brown  Christmas, and already I've managed to make a mess of a good third of my mom's giant dining table. So yeah... I'll post at least one of the finished paintings later, but for now, here's a glimpse into my typical workspace. ^_^

Deadpool T-Shirt

So. Long story short, I made a Deadpool t-shirt.

    Short story long... XD
So when I first heard that Guardians of the Galaxy was coming out, *wootwoot* I thought it looked reaaaaaally cheesy. However, one of my geek friends started raving about it, and piqued my interest in it. So I researched it. And watched all available trailers. And then the UK trailer, too. Yeah. XD
Anyhoo. I decided that I was dumb for pre-judging it, and then proceeded to try talking my sister into watching it with me. After I force-fed her a trailer or two, she and I decided that no matter what, we were going to attend our local theater's midnight premiere. We then decided that MARVEL shirts were essential for our outing, but neither of us had good shirts for it... (The only MARVEL shirt I ever bought turned threadbare with its first washing. Yayyyy for "girl's" geek shirts being durable and cool just like the guy's ones. >_<) We went shopping, but while she was able to find two incredibly awesome shirts, I didn't find anything A: in my size or B: within my very very narrow/specific standards (snobbery FTW). Instead of buying a pre-made shirt, I bought fabric paints and an inexpensive tshirt at a consignment shop, and, well...

(I know Deadpool has nothing to do with Guardians of the Galaxy, but the little nut is part of MARVEL Universe, okay. :P) The stencil was really easy to make... Just basic geometric shapes for the most part, which was nice. XD
Anyways, like I said, it was a long story, lol.

-Until next time!
*hands out chimichangas for everybody*

Book synopsis for my current story idea: My Baby Mermaid.

So... As I mentioned in my introductory post, I enjoy writing YA fiction in my spare time. This is the synopsis (basically, back-cover material/idea capsule) for my current story idea:

"The storm comes back in bits and pieces.

Me screaming at mom. Her screaming back. Rain. Police lights. Suffocating walls of water. Memories of dad –

I was only gonna run away for a little while – just one night. Little did I know that I'd end up here, on this island, alone.
It was like a horror story, until I met Dre. That's what I named the scaly, finger-eating fish-kid I found in a tide pool. She keeps me company, but I miss mom, and I wanna find a way home.
I think Dre needs me though. Or even if she doesn't really, I think she thinks she does.
I kind of adopted her... But I get the feeling that if I ever try to leave; a whole new horror story will begin."

Anyhoo, yeah. XD I'd love to hear your thoughts/suggestions about the idea in general, so feel free to critique! ^_^

"Peanuts" fan art.

So I drew Snoopy...

My uncle requested a "Peanuts" drawing after he saw my last painting, so yeah... This happened, lol.

I don't normally draw from reference, but I kind of had to for this (Charlie Brown still ended up looking odd though... I think it's because I made him too tall XD).

Anyhoo, adios for the present, and have a #fab day. ^_^

Braincolors:

I started/finished an ink and watercolor painting tonight...

Here's the unfinished/inked canvas:

And here's the finished product:

I had a lot of fun experimenting with the watercolors. ^_^

Gender Equality Poem woooooot

So I wrote a poem...

I was inspired by the recent "always like a girl" video, and wrote a short poem concerning gender equality. :3 It's not very long, but it's one of my only poems to actually (mostly) rhyme.
It's sort of childish/Dr. Seuss-ish, but yeahhh... POEM:

He likes brightly colored ponies
Rarity, Pinkie Pie, and 'Dash
She plans full-scale battles
With her brother's GiJoe stash

He sewed a costume on his own:
Armor, tunic, pants
She won the statewide science fair
When she "didn't have a chance."

His fashion sense is fabulous
But all his guy friends bash
She's a "pretty" gamer
They say her interests clash

He can cook incredibly
Like a famous chef from France
She can run a marathon
Although she cannot dance

He likes paint and poetry
She likes mud and trucks
If all these things are fine for one
Why do we make a fuss

We're not the same, not physically,
But we alike are strong
We have passions and abilities
And using them's not wrong.

Guys are guys, and girls are girls
But they are people, too
Manliness for him and her
Might be girliness to you.

It's okay to wear a dress
Yet want to learn Kung fu.
And guys don't have to shoot a gun...
Does that make sense to you?

Obligatory Introduction Ramble:

Hello, citizens and fellow humanoids.

I'm not exactly sure what I was thinking, creating my first blog... It's only a collection of words on a webpage, but as I type this out, I feel ridiculously self-conscious and nervous. XD
I suppose I should tell you a bit about myself for starters, though, so... LIST:

     1) I dabble in amateur YA fiction. Although I have a crazy ton of story ideas, I have only completed one full draft. My favorite genre to write is "modern fantasy" (basically real life with magical/fairytale elements thrown in). I'm currently working on a story about a runaway emo boy who finds a mermaid in a tide pool... So yeah. My niche is a little odd. XD

     2) I am a "fangirl" of a lot of shows, books, and movies. A few of my favorite geekdoms are: Doctor Who (9 forever uwu), BBC Sherlock, LotR/The Hobbit, Marvel Movie Universe, The Hunger Games, and Disney (both the new and old animation styles). My appreciation for these fandoms often makes its way into my art, but I have yet to write any fanfiction.

     3) I try to balance a diet of potatoes and cotton candy... (Not literally) In other words, while I deeply care about the various social and religious issues I write about, I also adore randomness. Thus, I may alternate between serious posts and ditties about unicorns with little to no warning whatsoever.

     4) I write a bit of poetry, mostly free-verse. I've found it's the best way for me to communicate any abstract feelings or thoughts I have. :3

     5) I am of the opinion that you now know enough about me for the time being... Which means that this list is officially completed.

Farewell until next time. ^_^
